A crew of 627 personnel participates in a car wash at their firehall from 6 am to 4 pm on Shanksville Yard Sale Days to raise money for their Fire Department - 6/6/2009

The Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department only solicits for donations by mail once a year. We now accept donations through our new website! We need your donations to keep functioning and you need the services of the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department! It takes quite a bit of money to run a Fire Department in this day and age, so please donate whatever you can afford!

What has your financial support accomplished so far for the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department?

Most recently your financial support to us has allowed us to add an additional three truck bays to our station. It has allowed us to maintain our station and equipment, also train our personnel. All this is needed to be able to do the best job at protecting and serving you. This all costs a lot of money. This is where your financial support has a big job in this organization!

How will your donation be utilized?

Electric, sewer, heat, phone, insurance, vehicle payments and other bills associated with a household or business are still expenses for us. Unfortunately we do not have some magical funding source that eliminates these expenses for us. Just like you managing your household, we need to budget for these normal operating expenses. In addition we have added expenses of personal protective equipment, training, and expensive specialized equipment.

In about five years we will be looking at the major expense of replacing Engine 627-1 ("Big Mo"), which is our primary unit for just about any type of fire. It is 15 years old and has been worked hard over those 15 years! Expected life of a fire engine is only 20 years and a new fire engine has a projected cost of about $400,000! This will be an expense well over and above our normal operating expenses. As you are probably thinking, we will have to start early in this investment! We have been working on this, and will continue our efforts to raise the needed funds.

Your donations also will be used to maintain our station, equipment, and training are personnel which also once again are very expensive but with your support it will help us that much better! Your donation is crucial in providing the best services we can to our fire service district: Shanksville Borough, Stonycreek Township, Indian Lake Borough, and a 15-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, including the Alleghany Tunnel.

What about our crew?

The Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department currently has 44 active members and we're working on growing our membership.  We are greatly appreciative of the good help that we do have. It takes money, and lots of it, to keep our firefighters in the proper personal protective equipment, and provide them with the right equipment to protect and serve the citizens in our fire service district. Our crew contributes countless hours of their personal time to the fire department!  In 2008 and years in the past the crew of the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department has put in numerous hours of training and hard work so we can continue to do what we do.  In 2008 the Department responded to 82 fire/rescue calls and 59 QRS/EMS calls.

Your generosity in making a donation to the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department will help insure that we continue to provide good services to the citizens of our fire service district!

We also accept corporate donations!
